Applying for a mortgage whilst in receipt of DLA Kevholl

This is my first post so please excuse any errors.

I am a 51 year old man in receipt of Disability Living Allowance and Employment Support Allowance. My wife and I are going to divorce and we have decided that she will stay in our home and I will move on. She has arranged a new mortgage and will be paying me approx £30,000 in May, being my part of the equity after settling our mortgage.

Once we separate I will have no significant outgoings, and I have no debts to speak of. I also understand that my credit rating is good. I would like to apply for a mortgage of, say, £40,000 but have heard that I am not eligible as long as benefits are my only source of income.

I hope to be able to return to work in some capacity once I have recovered from an upcoming operation, but that might take another 6 to 12 months.

Can anybody offer any advice or guidance please? Many thanks.

There are lenders who will consider a mortgage to people whos sole income is benefits however not where it is expected they will stop. You may need to wait until you return to work.
