Typically switching offers will specify 'active' direct debits, which means that annual ones would suffice, but you'd need to check the terms of the offer you're contemplating, as there isn't a standard and each can set whatever rules they choose....

I think you will find that they need to be monthly. However you can use a £1 to post office savings account and £1 to Tesco savings account.

Be wary of Co-op. Have read they didn't count Council tax and water for Feb/Mar switchers as they weren't collected within 30 days of account switching so they said not active
